The monastery of Kyria ton Angelon of Gouvernetou ,one of the oldest monasteries in Crete lies at an altitude of 260 meters. Built in 1537 by monks.
On the way to the Catholic Gouvernetou you can find the cave where Arkoudiotissa got its name from a stalagmite resembling a bear. The cave church dedicated to Virgin Mary. Continuing you will visit the monastery of Agia Triada Tsagarolon, which has been established in early 17th century by the brothers-both monks-Laurentions and a Ieremias Tsangaroli, Orthodox of Venetian origin and it’s the bigger monastery complex in Crete.
The monastery used to have the Ottomans during the Greek Revolution of 1821.
